Basement Excavation

South Fulham, London

Brief
The client, a busy executive with the Institute of Directors, was living in the first floor flat and purchased the ground floor flat. She then wished to incorporate the 2 into one dwelling, restoring the original open staircase and also enlarge the property if feasible.

Outcome
The only realistic option to enlarge was the formation of an additional basement floor. This was excavated and the original walls underpinned working closely with structural engineers. The kitchen was resited to the front and a new sunken courtyard was dug out in front of the kitchen door and window.
Despite the confined site a light airy kitchen dining area was formed in the new basement.
